{solsc} 21/31 #sol17 What I Didn't Intend to Write --Again

Three and a half years ago, I didn't intend to write a blog post about a former student.  And, today, I didn't intend to write about him either.

I intended to write about the great conversations in my College Prep Lit class.
Or, All-State Speech on Monday.
I could have written about my birthday celebration last weekend.

But
At lunch, we learned the young man had died.
No one was sure of the cause.

So, today, I use my words from years ago:

  5. This young man's story is so sad. Have you send this video by the Sandy Hook parents?

These are the kids, much like your student, who need our attention. Who need to know they matter.

  6. I am so sorry that this post had to be written and that you had to experience this...again. This is a much needed reminder for so many adults in the world! We need to slow down, reach out and make a connection with someone who is currently hanging on by a thread. This must have been so difficult, but thank you for sharing!

  7. I'm sorry for this, Deb. No one should be made to stay locked into such a sad place. There is a child in Ingrid's class (2nd grade) whom I hear about all the time. He is not doing well, is in constant trouble, and I worry about him a lot. The path seems to be laid already, and I wish someone would turn that child another way. He's only seven.

  9. Sorry for the loss, Deb. I know how much it pains you and others. Your thoughts from several years ago are gentle reminders that we all need to be on the watch for those who are troubled. Hugs

  10. That "you matter" picture at the bottom of your blog reminds me how important simply saying that to someone truly is. I'm sorry for this loss and the loss previously written about. Our students, regardless of where they come from, somehow manage to wiggle their way in to our hearts. I wish you and the family peace in the upcoming days and weeks.
