2/31 Saturday Morning Jitters

Join the fun of the March Slice of Life Challenge at Two Writing Teachers

My eyes spring awake. My mind is instantly on the go.

"What time did I order the bus for? I was initially going to ask for it at 7:00am. Did I change that? Did I remember to ask for it at 6:15? How will I get kids to contest if I forgot? "

"Will Mike remember those speakers? Will they even work on the computer? I'd better grab Karen's too, just in case."

I head to the shower. Hot water feels so good. I start my list in my head....

  • check email for transportation request
  • don't forget the Cheerio bars
  • double check my backpack
  • make sure I have my phone
  • does Jenn want the stool for storytelling
  • go over notes for the judge's meeting
  • don't forget to pick up out of town girls on the way
  • post my slice
Once out of the shower, a quick cup of coffee and I head to the living room. I check my email and, of course, I filled out the transportation request correctly, Karen has left me speakers to take along, and I posted my first slice.

My backpack and phone are ready to go, so, Cheerio bars in hand, I head out the door for another Saturday at speech contest.

  1. I hope the speech contest went well! You were very well prepared. This reminds me of a time we were taking teachers to a conference - long before cell phones and GPS devices. We had everything planned and ready and we breathed a sigh of relief when we sat on the loaded bus. Then the bus driver said, "Now where do we go?" and the other leader and I looked at each other and said "We're not sure where it is." Ooops!

  4. Anyone who has taken students to some sort of contest can relate to this post....rush, rush, rush...and the worry that something has been forgotten. Glad you got it all right...and even remembered and made time to publish your post! Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/

  5. Do you ever feel you are so organized that you are unorganized? While I was reading your post I felt those jitters with you. Sometimes it seems when you are on your mark, you just can't trust that something won't go wrong. Loved the post.

  6. I am confident that the speech contest went as planned and that your students did a great job. When all goes smoothly, don't you wonder why you worried and second guessed yourself? With all that on your plate, I'm impressed that you remembered to get a slice written and posted.

  10. My brain is always in overdrive in the shower. I've joked about waterproof sticky notes for the shower, but didn't know they really existed! (Thanks Jennifer!) I know you had a wonderful day with your students and I'm sure they impressed you yet again!
