Playing Around

Playing around on the computer--checking our Facebook and Twitter and landing on Pinterest. And found "You Are Your Words" from American Heritage Dictionary. You upload a picture and some of your own words and POOF!  A self-portrait.  I used a blog post....

And POOF again

And one more time

You can change fonts and colors and the contrast, so each picture is unique.  I think my creative writing students would really like this.

  1. So cool! I stumbled upon this on pinterest too and pinned it, but haven't had a chance to play around yet. So glad that you did! Kinda cool, huh?

  2. I found it earlier, but still haven't decided what to do with it. Your pics are very cool, Deb. I imagine your students will do great things with this.

  3. Blog posts worked great for this. I'm thinking "Where I'm From Poems" or a personal memoir might work great for this

  6. Deb, that is interesting. Does it keep the words in order or change them around? It seems like it would also be a great way to make a gift for someone. I'm thinking it would be possible to write something for them and then put it with the picture. For example, a picture of grandpa with a piece of writing about what makes him such a great grandpa. Would that work? I'm going to have to go give this a try. Could you use it with informational writing? Students could write an informational piece and put it with a picture of that thing? I guess I'm going to have to give this a try.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Cathy, I think you have lots of great ideas for this. I'm exploring it with my creative writing students. I'll see what they come up with. We found out yesterday that it doesn't include numbers and punctuation--just words. I've told my kids that if they write something new, I would actually need a document with the writing to grade, but this is a fun way to publish. I think an informational piece would be interesting. The photo would have to be of one distinct item, but I'll bet it would work

  7. Linda directed me to this a short while ago. Since I was already using Tagxedo for my poems this month, I haven't tried it, but it's on my "to do" list. Looks like fun!
