Hades

I am in English teacher hell.  I can't think of what to write.  None of my ideas seem worthwhile. Putting too much pressure on myself, I'm sure.

None of the books I grabbed to read grabbed me.  I've got a great pile.  And some suggestions from others.  Nothing, however, just feels right.

I have Creative Writing to grade. Ugh.  Usually I don't mind, but today my heart isn't in it.

It's Tuesday. I can read and comment on others' blogs.  That usually good for inspiration.
But not today.

But, write I will, because it's good for me!

  1. Poor Deb, how can it be that you have reached this place? That's a perfect photo to express your feelings. Keep looking, inspiration is just around the bend. (Remember the lake is calling you.)

  2. I love the cartoon, & am sorry you are stuck. If you were here you could write about the snow we had this am after having 80 plus degrees over the weekend. If you were here, you could write about the students who aren't back from spring break because they are still in Spain or London or ? But I didn't write about them either, FYI, so maybe you would have rejected those too. I actually enjoyed what you told us very much, words & pics! So, thanks!

  4. Love the photos! I must be right there with you, cause I'm feeling the same way. Hopefully tomorrow brings new light and who knows? Maybe inspiration will get us when we least expect it.

  5. awww, I totally understand. I'm actually feeling almost the same today -- super tired and lots to grade and just "bleh" about writing, even though I had some exciting news to write about. But I wrote any way! That's the good thing about this community -- it makes you want to write even when you don't want to! P.S. The pics made me giggle! :-)

  6. Wow, Deb,
I had the same problem at first today and it did take me time to get my flow going. I LOVE your pic! Glad you found a way to create something cool :)

  7. You totally sound like my students...I'll be laughing the rest of the night! It's crazy for us as English teachers (I teach 10th grade) to think we'll be "on" all the time. I have dozens of pages in my own writer's notebook that start off with "I have nothing to say" -- but I think taking a break should be a rule for writers and readers. I say take a break. The writing and reading will call you back when they know you are ready.

    Stay strong! ;)

  8. Okay, who are you and what did you do with Deb? She told you to write that, didn't she? It's really code for "Help! Writer's bloggage has me!"

  9. I've been there. SO glad you chose to blog about it.

I'm opening my THIRD novel for the day...not because I'm some crazy reader, but because none of them grabbed me. AND THEY SHOULD!

I found myself thinking, what's wrong with me? I'm glad to know this is sometimes just the way things go.

Here's to the flip side...and we know it will come. :)

  10. Aaaggghhh! (Love the picture!) Hey, we all have those days, but you didn't give up. My students and I were talking about all the little 'slices' that we can write about and this came up -- sometimes you write about what you don't know what to write about but at least you wrote! (Whew - that seemed wordy.)

Best of luck getting back on track - reading and writing! Maybe Chloe could help you?

  14. Writer's block - ugh. I loved your voice throughout this piece. You created a piece from your thoughts. And the picture - how fun! On to a new day!

  15. I like how you can still write, even though you can't think of anything to write about. Time for Chloe to write again? Or are you just thinking "spring break"?

  16. Through the pictures, I get a sense that you are able to look at the "problem" with humor. I have always found that humor helps get through many problems in life. The visuals included made me smile. I am glad that you still chose to write and loved your last line.
